With our love for the ocean and the stunning coastline on the cusp of McLaren Vale being a massive draw card to calling this fantastic little town home it made sense to link the name of our Flagship Reserve to it. Sharing the same rarity as the sightings of the Giant Squid Ink of the ocean, to taste our Giant Squid Ink Shiraz is the opportunity of a lifetime and so we named it after just that.
Our Squid Ink vineyard is the epitome of what defines one of the greatest vineyards in Australia where the famous Black Bay of Biscay Clay soil ensures fantastic fruit. Referred to by some local friends as ‘Mayfair’ the use of sustainable viticulture and having true respect for the value of our vineyards and the fruit they create. We site select each parcel we deem to be outstanding and split pick it at harvest separating what we believe to be the most prestigious fruit of the vineyard.
In the winery the Squid Ink Shiraz fruit is treated with utmost respect, ensuring quality from start to finish. With a 3 day cold soak prior to slow fermentation for gentle extraction of colour, flavour and tannin, the wine is monitored closely. Following fermentation, the wine is then matured in the finest of new French and American oak barrels for 24 months.

Nose: The nose is rich and complex with a delightful concentration of all elements. The busy glass delivers great fruit intensity with some intriguing savoury, Tobacco and cedar oak characters shining through.

The 2012 season produced intense fruit, which translated to a rich concentrated Shiraz wine. The wine has all the attributes of a classic McLaren Vale Shiraz and will reward those who wish to cellar it. This wine, like life, is wonderful in youth, learned through personal growth and a good balance in all aspects of life, but with patience and development of the fruit, together with the integration of the finest of oak will also find that seamless balance.Potential:Medium term cellaring will benefit, long term cellaring with amaze.
